Hours after playing a match-winning knock to help India take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series against Zimbabwe, star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad took social media by storm with his epic post on social media. Gaikwad has been in brilliant form in the ongoing tour of Zimbabwe, with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain registering scores of 77 and 49 in the second and third T20Is, respectively. As India took a 2-1 lead over Zimbabwe in the series on Wednesday, Gaikwad took to Instagram to share a hilarious post. While suggesting he is “ahead of the trend”, Gaikwad shared a picture of his T20I cap, with number 88 engraved on it. For the unversed, Gaikwad is the 88th player to play for India.Coming back to the third T20I, India captain Shubman Gill top-scored with a 49-ball 66, Ruturaj Gaikwad hit a quick 28-ball 49 and all-rounder Washington Sundar was smart in lengths to pick an economical 3-15 as India survived a fighting effort from Dion Myers to beat Zimbabwe by 23 runs.On a two-paced pitch, a breezy Yashasvi Jaiswal and Gill had a 67-run opening stand, before Zimbabwe enforced a slowdown in the middle overs. Gill and Gaikwad joined forces for a 72-run partnership off 44 balls for the third wicket, which ensured India got past 180.In reply, Zimbabwe were reduced to 39/5, before Myers and Clive Madande had a 77-run sixth-wicket stand to keep Zimbabwe in the hunt. Myers went on to be unbeaten on 65 off 49 balls, but it ended in vain as Zimbabwe could only make 159/6 in 20 overs.(With ANI Inputs)

Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad produced high-quality knocks before the bowlers did their part as India outplayed Zimbabwe by 23 runs in the third T20 in Harare on Wednesday. Gill (66 off 49), Yashasvi Jaiswal (36 off 27) and Gaikwad (49 off 28) propelled India to 182 for four against Zimbabwe after the visitors opted to bat on a fresh pitch. Zimbabwe were never really in the run chase despite an entertaining effort from number four Dion Myers (65 not out 49), ending at 159 for six in their stipulated 20 overs.Washington Sundar, who is likely to play a bigger role in India’s T20 set-up after the retirement of Ravindra Jadeja, struck thrice while Avesh Khan took a couple of wickets. The fourth T20 of the five-match series will be staged here on Saturday, July 13. After a loss in the series opener, India have restored normal service with back-to-back victories. After Avesh Khan bounced out opener Wessly Madhevere in the second over, the wickets kept falling for the home team. However, Zimbabwe did well to stead the ship after losing their first five wickets for 39 runs. The 77-run stand off 57 balls between Myers and Clive Madande (37 off 26) put much needed life into the game.Earlier, Gill-led India made some interesting selection calls. They duly inducted World Cup winners Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (12 not out off 7) and Shivam Dube into the playing eleven, leaving out the likes of Riyan Parag in the middle order.Sanju came to bat at number five with four specialist openers Jaiswal, Gill, Abhishek Sharma (10 off 9) and Gaikwad occupying the top four positions respectively.Jaiswal, who did not get a game in India’s triumphant campaign in the T20 World Cup, was happy to be back in the middle and went for his shots from the get go.The southpaw collected couple of fours and a six over deep-midwicket in the opening over bowled by off-spinner Brian Bennett to set the tone. Gill began with a gorgeous on drive off left-arm pacer Richard Ngarava before pulling him for a six over fine-leg.Zimbabwe were poor in the field to say the least, conceding extra runs and grassing regulation catches throughout the innings. Pacer Blessing Muzarabani (2/25) once again got the extra bounce from length and was the pick of the bowlers. After racing to 49 for no loss in four overs, India could not maintain that tempo reaching 55 in the powerplay with both openers in the centre.Zimbabwe skipper Sikandar Raza, who impressed again with the ball, got the breakthrough for his team as Jaiswal’s reverse sweep went straight into the hands of the fielder at backward point. Last game’s centurion Abhishek did not last long and was holed out in the deep off Raza.Gaikwad, finding himself at an unusual batting position, was able to milk the spinners in the middle overs and ended with four boundaries and three sixes.(Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is published from a syndicated feed.)

The series is currently evenly poised with both teams winning one match each and the bilateral trophy still being up for grabs. Shubman Gill’s side will be more emboldened with the addition of World Cup winning trio of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Sanju Samson. However, with new players coming into the side, it could be the end of series of some youngsters like Sai Sudarshan, Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag. Moreover, there could also be a change in the batting lineup, with Yashasvi Jaiswal set to take the opening berth. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, would look like to make a strong comeback after facing a 100 run defeat in the last encounter. In particular, this young Minnows lineup would need to improve their batting performance if they want to stand any chance of defeating the World Champions.India vs Zimbabwe 3rd T20I: Playing XIsIndia: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill(c), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson(w), Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Khaleel AhmedZimbabwe: Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wessly Madhevere, Brian Bennett, Dion Myers, Sikandar Raza(c), Johnathan Campbell, Clive Madande(w), Wellington Masakadza, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani, Tendai Chatara 10 Jul 2024, 07:52:44 PM IST India vs Zimbabwe Live Score: Gill, Gaikwad lead India to beat Zimbabwe by 23 runs India vs Zimbabwe Live Score: Chasing 183 runs in the third T20I against India at Harare, Zimbabwe could only score 159/6 runs in 20 overs and lost to India by 23 runs. For Zimbabwe, Dion Myers scored a half century of 45 balls and was unbeaten at 65 off 49 balls. Harare: India will find it tough to choose between Yashasvi Jaiswal’s seemingly effortless flamboyance and Abhishek Sharma’s uber-cool aggression at the top when they rejig their combination to make space for World Cup-winning squad members in the third T20 International against Zimbabwe here on Wednesday. The arrival of Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube, all of whom were part of the main team during the title-winning run last month, gives the Indian team a formidable look in the most important game of the series as visitors look to press home the advantage after the booster shot of a series-levelling 100-run victory in the second match.Abhishek, the left-handed opener, did enough to live up to his pre-series hype with a 46-ball century in only his second game and did look the part opening the innings. However, Jaiswal, with a handsome strike rate of 161 plus in 17 T20I matches, including a hundred and four half-centuries, does have the first claim to be skipper Shubman Gill’s opening partner by virtue of being the reserve opener of the first-choice T20 team.Although rare but it is not uncommon for batters to be dropped in the very next match after a milestone innings.Case in point were Manoj Tiwary, immediately after his maiden ODI hundred against the West Indies in 2011, and Karun Nair after his triple hundred in a Test match against England in 2016.But skipper Gill is unlikely to let that happen with his best friend since their U-14 days and someone who scored his first international ton with a willow borrowed from the former. So, it could well be a case of one of the two southpaws batting at one drop. Sanju Samson, who normally bats at No. 3 for Rajasthan Royals, might come in at No.5, while Ruturaj Gaikwad, who batted at No.3, will probably drop down a place to No.4.As far as the changes in the playing eleven are concerned, Jaiswal is likely to replace B Sai Sudharsan, who was selected only for the first two games.Samson will come in place of Dhruv Jurel, who had a good outing behind the stumps.Dube, the only player who was a part of T20 World Cup playing XI, is likely to walk in to replace Riyan Parag. The imposing batter could be an even bigger nemesis for the Zimbabwean spinners during the back-10.As far as Zimbabwe is concerned, their batting has left a lot to be desired with scores of 115 while batting first and 134 in the second essay chasing 235.On the Harare Sports Club track where there is a bit of extra bounce available for the spinners, Ravi Bishnoi (6/24 from 8 overs) and Washington Sundar (3/39 in 8 overs) have proved to be unplayable at times.Bishnoi, who normally bowls 20 to 22 googlies in his 24 balls per match, has varied his pace brilliantly and with home skipper Sikandar Raza being kept quiet, the other batters haven’t looked good enough to counter the Indian bowling attack. The 13-run shock defeat in the opener was a timely wake-up call for the young visiting side and it did well to play without five specialist bowlers in the second game where batting first became an advantage. For skipper Gill, a good score would be a necessity after two dry games and he is just too good a player to fail thrice. That could prove to be an ominous sign for the home team bowlers, who don’t have even one guy with express pace.In a nutshell, it could be another one-sided game.Teams (from): India: Shubman Gill (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Khaleel Ahmed, Tushar Deshpande.Zimbabwe: Sikandar Raza (captain), Faraz Akram, Brian Bennett, Johnathan Campbell, Tendai Chatara, Luke Jongwe, Innocent Kaia, Clive Madande, Wessly Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Brandon Mavuta, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Antum Naqvi, Richard Ngarava, Milton Shumba.Match Starts at 4:30 pm IST.Published 09 July 2024, 08:42 IST

NEW DELHI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, an Indian batsman, acknowledges the challenges that come with filling the void left by Virat Kohli’s retirement from the number three position in T20Is. He understands the difficulty of replacing such a legendary player.Instead of focusing on the specific batting position, Gaikwad is concentrating on making significant contributions to the team with his batting skills. He is prepared to adapt to any role that the team management assigns him.The departure of experienced players like Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravindra Jadeja from the T20 format after the World Cup victory has created opportunities for emerging talents. Gaikwad, with his impressive abilities, has the potential to secure the number three spot in the batting order.”This is a big topic and I think it’s not the right point to think about it. To even compare with him (Kohli) or try to fill in his shoes is relatively very tough and very hard,” PTI quoted Gaikwad as saying on the eve of the third T20I against Zimbabwe in Harare.”As I had said in the IPL as well, it is difficult to fill my best shoes as well. Definitely, you want to start your career, you want to start the way you want, you want to play your own game. So that’s the priority right now.”Focus on one game, focus on how you can contribute towards the team in whichever position you play and make sure you are on the winning side more often than not.”Gaikwad has been assigned the crucial No. 3 spot in the batting order for the initial two T20Is against Zimbabwe. However, the right-handed batter from Pune clarified that he doesn’t have any specific preference regarding his batting position.”No, wherever the team wants, I will bat there. There is no problem. There is not much difference between the opening and the number 3 because you have to play the new ball. So there is not much difference,” he said.Gaikwad, who captained the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, expressed that leading the team has increased his involvement in the game. However, he mentioned that the added responsibility did not impact his batting performance.”Actually, to be honest, nothing has changed much. Because my batting has been the same as before. I have to play with responsibility and try and finish it on my own,” he said.”It’s just that the way you look at the game, I think every time you are more involved now in the game since you have captained the IPL franchise for a long period of time.”So you tend to be into the game for a longer period of time instead of just staying in the boundary outside and just focusing on one ball. As I said, batting wise it’s not made much difference.”Abhishek Sharma, a young opening batsman, recently shared insights into how his teammate, Gaikwad, assisted him in maintaining a balanced outlook during his explosive performance in the second T20I match. Abhishek’s blistering century, which came off just 46 deliveries, played a crucial role in securing victory for his team.”Actually, communication is not from a senior player,” Gaikwad said.”It comes from a batting partner because obviously with non-strikers you feel something about a particular bowler or particular conditions and you have to have that confidence to go and share with your partner whatever you feel and what are the right options, what to do in certain situations.”Definitely this is something which I have been doing since being part of all the teams whether state team, IPL team or Indian team as well…”

After securing a 100-run win in the second T20I played at Harare Sports Club on Sunday (July 7), India would like to maintain the good show and get the better of Zimbabwe once again during the third T20I, which is scheduled to take place at the same venue on Wednesday (July 10). Indian batters posted a total of 234 runs in the second T20I, and the return of three T20 World Cup 2024 winners—Yashasvi Jasiwal, Shivam Dube, and Sanju Samson—will add more strength to the batting unit for the remaining three matches. The trio missed the first couple of matches due to Team India’s delayed arrival from the West Indies after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title. Even though Jaiswal and Samson didn’t get a chance to play any matches in the T20 World Cup for India, they will be favourites to play in the third T20I against Zimbabwe. It will be interesting to see who makes way for them. In all likelihood, Samson will replace Dhruv Jurel and play as wicketkeeper-batter, whereas Jaiswal will come in for Sai Sudharsan, who made his T20I debut on Sunday but didn’t get a chance to bat. Jaiswal’s inclusion will, however, force the team management to change the batting order. Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 100 and 77*, respectively, in the second T20I, will move to No. 3 and 4 positions to make way for Jaiswal at the top.Dube, who got a chance to play in all eight matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 for India, is expected to come in for Riyan Parag, who scored two runs on his debut. Apart from his batting, Dube will be a key player for India with his medium-paced bowling. It is highly unlikely that India will tinker with the pace bowling combination of Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar, which means Khaleel Ahmed and Tusharpande will warm the bench once again. The spinner duo of Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi has made life difficult for Zimbabwe batters in the first two matches, and Indian team management will expect them to continue the onslaught.India’s likely playing XI for the third T20I against Zimbabwe: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill (C), Abhishek Sharma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson (WK), Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bisnnoi, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar.top videosView AllBigg Boss OTT 3: Payal Malik’s Eviction UPSETS Fans, Husband Arman Malik’s Happy Expression SHOCKSNatasa Stankovic Papped Running Errands Around Town & Missing Husband Hardik Pandya’s T20 Finals’Kalki 2898 AD’ Hits Rs 500 Cr Mark | Virat’s Love Note For Anushka | Shatrughan Sinha HospitalisedBad Newz Trailer Launch: Vicky Kaushal FINALLY Reacts To Katrina Kaif’s Pregnancy Rumours I WATCHKaty Perry Takes Nude Dressing To Another Level By Wearing Only A Coat To Paris Couture Week | WATCHfirst published: July 09, 2024, 10:44 IST

Abhishek Sharma was on fire for India in the second T20I against Zimbabwe on Sunday (July 7). In the match played at Harare Sports Club, the left-handed batter scored 100 runs. During his stay at the crease, the 23-year-old cricketer faced a total of 47 balls and smacked 7 fours and 8 sixes. He added 137 runs for the second wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad, who remained unbeaten on 77 runs from 47 balls.SRH batter Abhishek, who failed to open his account on his T20I debut on Saturday (July 6), slammed six on the first ball he faced on Sunday, and there was no stopping him from there on. He took Zimbabwe bowlers to the cleaners and scored boundaries at will. In the 14th over of the Indian innings, he scored Wellington Masakadza for three sixes in a row to complete his maiden century in T20Is for India. The youngster became the fastest batter to score a century in T20Is for India (2 innings). After reaching the triple-figure mark, Abhishek celebrated in style. Indian captain Shubman Gill, who was enjoying the match from the dressing room, was impressed by Abhishek’s performance and was seen giving a standing ovation to the star batter. The video of Gill’s reaction after his childhood friend and state teammate scored a century in the second India-Zimbabwe T20I went viral. Advertisement While Abhishek scored a magnificent century in the second match against Zimbabwe, Gill wasn’t able to do much and was dismissed for two runs from four balls. He was sent back to the pavilion by pacer Blessing Muzarabani on the second ball of the second over. But despite Gill’s flop show, India managed to post a total of 234 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs, which in the end proved enough. The Sikandar Raza-led side, which stunned the Indian team by winning the first T20I by 13 runs, could only manage to score 134 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 18.4 overs. Opener Wessly Madhevere top-scored for the hosts by making 43 runs from 39 balls, and Luke Jongwe made a contribution of 33 runs.Pacers Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar picked up three wickets each for the Indian team, and two Zimbabwe batters were sent back to the pavilion by Ravi Bishnoi, who only conceded 11 runs in his quota of four overs. The third T20I between India and Zimbabwe is scheduled to take place at the Harare Sports Club on Wednesday (July 10).top videosView AllBigg Boss OTT 3: Payal Malik’s Eviction UPSETS Fans, Husband Arman Malik’s Happy Expression SHOCKSNatasa Stankovic Papped Running Errands Around Town & Missing Husband Hardik Pandya’s T20 Finals’Kalki 2898 AD’ Hits Rs 500 Cr Mark | Virat’s Love Note For Anushka | Shatrughan Sinha HospitalisedBad Newz Trailer Launch: Vicky Kaushal FINALLY Reacts To Katrina Kaif’s Pregnancy Rumours I WATCHKaty Perry Takes Nude Dressing To Another Level By Wearing Only A Coat To Paris Couture Week | WATCHfirst published: July 08, 2024, 06:31 IST
